The Curiosity Project NZ

NZ Medicinal Plants

Tuesday 30th August
6.30pm - 8.00pm
Ours Cafe

Join us for this one off medicinal plant project - learn about the healing properties of NZ plants from your own backyard, founded in traditional Māori knowledge

What will you learn?

You will have the opportunity to experience a greater connection and appreciation for the environment by learning the principles of Rongoā Māori - traditional Māori Medicine. Which encompasses herbal remedies, physical therapies such as massage/mirimiri and spiritual healing.

You will then delve deeper into rakau rongoā, plant based medicine, by learning about NZ plants found locally and how to identify them. The do’s, don’ts and whys of harvesting, storage and preparing them for use at home.

You will then have the opportunity to use easily found local plants to create your own medicine; sunscreen, insect repellant and more.

Who will be teaching?

The Curiosity Project is privileged to have renowned expert of Rongoā Māori, Rob McGowan otherwise known as Pa Ropata, as our speaker. Rob has been involved for more than 20 years in the restoration of Rongoā Māori practice in NZ through research and teaching. He is also the author of Rongoā Māori – a practical guide to traditional Māori Medicine” (2009) and runs a more indepth workshops through Titoki Education. Rob is also heavily involved in protecting ecosystems in his role working for Nga Whenua Rahui, a unit of DOC, and better yet he is a Tauranga local.

But wait, there's more...

We also have Herbal Potential joining us for this project. They'll be bringing a fantastic range of herbal tea blends and native tea infusions for our lucky attendees to try. Check out their website for more details on what they have to offer.
